Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical wilderness in the United States. It contains temperate and tropical plant communities, as well as marine and estuarine environments. It boasts rare and endangered species including the Wood Stork and the American Crocodile. It has been designated a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, and a Wetland of International Importance. It is significant to all people of the world.Â
There are many ways to see the Everglades, including taking a boat trip from the Gulf Coast Visitor Center to see dolphins, birds and other wildlife and a tram tour at Shark Valley to view alligators and wading birds. There are also scenic drives, walking and bicycle trails, and paddling trails.

Boat tours (for a fee) depart every hour. Free ranger-led activities at Gulf Coast December 22 through April 12 include: Canoe Tours - 10am-2pm every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday, bring your own canoe/kayak or rent one on site; Eyes on the Everglades Talk - daily at 11 am and 2 pm; Nature Walk, daily at 4:15 pm; Bike Tour - Thursdays 10 am-Noon; Afternoon Canoe Trip - Thursdays and Fridays 2-4 pm; Calusa Indian weekend - March - call for dates.
