The Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest provides water sheet-flow for the Fakahatchee Strand and Big Cypress Preserve and is one of the few places in South Florida where a pre-Columbian landscape can still be observed. The forest offers a variety of recreational activities for visitors. There are many miles of open roads available for hiking and bicycling. Fishing and hunting are popular and the Slough offers many different hunting opportunities through FWC's quota system.
