Silver Springs State Park

Add to plan Remove from plan

Silver Springs, Florida's first attraction which opened in the 1870s, is a 4,660-acre National Natural Landmark located on the western edge of the Ocala National Forest.

One of the world's largest freshwater springs, Silver Springs actually are 30 artesian spring vents that form the 5.4 mile Silver River. Glass-bottom boats offer 30-minute tours, but canoes and kayaks offer the best way to experience the crystal-clear river with nothing but wild Florida along its banks.

Hiking, biking and camping are popular recreations. Modern vacation cabins are also available. On weekends and holidays, explore the pioneer "Cracker" village at the Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center. Ranger programs offered every weekend as well as seasonal events, festivals, and concerts throughout the year.

For visitors with disabilities:
- The park has one modern, wheelchair-accessible glass-bottom boat, which operates on Thursdays through Mondays. The rest of the fleet has been in service for decades and can't accommodate wheelchairs, but the staff can help transfer guests to seats on the boats.
- Service animals are allowed on the boats.
