Timucuan Trail

Add to plan Remove from plan

Nearly three miles of a new, 10-foot wide paved trail at Big Talbot Island State Park (http://www.floridastateparks.org/bigtalbotisland/default.cfm) adds to the over two miles of the existing paved trail at Little Talbot Island State Park (http://www.floridastateparks.org/littletalbotisland/default.cfm).  The trail segments are part of a larger multi-use trail, known as the Timucuan Trail, planned along the 18.1 mile route from Kathryn Abbey Hannah Park (http://www.coj.net/departments/parks-and-recreation/recreation-and-community-programming/hanna-park.aspx) north to Amelia Island State Park (http://www.floridastateparks.org/ameliaisland/default.cfm). This trail also contributes to the East Coast Greenway (http://www.greenway.org/index.shtml), which aims to connect the cities and towns of the East Coast from Maine to Key West in a continuous, traffic-free path.

The recently completed segment winds through maritime forest of gnarled live oaks, bays, and magnolias surrounded by palmetto. Enjoy access to the beach, plus two new innovative low-impact design (LID) parking areas. Take a break at four interpretive displays funded by Friends of Talbot Islands State Parks and discover the area's natural and cultural significance.  To learn how you can help support the Friends group, visit them at http://www.talbotislands.com/. Besides camping opportunities at the Talbot Islands state parks, Hannah Park at the southern terminus also offers RV and tent camping and cabin rentals.
